A Two-Step Guide to Mastering CSGO Position Control

In the high-stakes world of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO), mastering the art of position control can significantly enhance your gameplay. You often see seasoned players handling multiple opponents with ease, breaking down a one-against-many situation into several one-on-one encounters. This strategic approach is made possible through effective CSGO position control.

Take the Dust2 map, for instance. If you rush to point A and crouch to face the enemy, you expose yourself to multiple opponents. Even managing a one-for-one trade in such a scenario would be a commendable feat. However, with good CSGO position control, you can methodically clear each threatening position, turning a potential one-against-many situation into a series of manageable one-on-one encounters.

CSGO position control

Understanding the importance of position control, we present a two-step guide to help you practice and perfect this crucial skill.

Step 1: Mastering Quick Stops in Small Areas

The first step to mastering position control in CSGO is to become accustomed to making quick stops in small areas. To start, head over to the CSGO HUB map, adjust the bot spawn locations to closer points, and reduce the bot count to five. This setup, with bots spread out, is ideal for initial practice sessions.

Once set, enter the door and begin practicing from left to right. Since bot spawn locations are random, pick a spot, gather enemy information, and ensure that each time you come out to make a quick stop shot, you can only see one enemy in your field of view. The overall rhythm is to first pick for information, then come out and shoot. If you can’t see an enemy or see more than one, it means you’ve failed. Do ten sets of a hundred each to familiarize yourself with the feeling of making quick stops in small areas.

Step 2: Enhancing In-Game Position Control

The second step focuses on improving in-game position control. For this,  head to the practice map and choose a map you like. Click on the ‘Start Practice’ button at the bottom right corner, jump into the map, and ignore all the options. From the left, click on the third option, jump onto the platform, and begin your practice.

As you navigate the map, follow the white line that guides your route. You’ll notice small white boxes along the way, which represent enemy positions. Use your CSGO position control and pre-aim skills to eliminate each target one by one. Remember, if you spray your weapon, you’ll expose yourself to multiple enemies. Your goal is to control your position and eliminate each enemy one by one. If you get hit more than ten times per route, it means you’ve failed. After completing a route, press ‘U’ and type ‘next’ to move on to the next route. Aim to familiarize yourself with three routes on a map each day. There’s no time limit, but ensure you don’t get hit more than ten times.

Your pre-aim and clutch skills can benefit greatly from effective CSGO position control. For instance, when pre-aiming, you should aim for one-on-one encounters. If you spray too much, you’ll affect your field of view and potentially expose yourself to multiple enemies. When facing a sniper or a highly accurate opponent, use your position control skills to peek effectively.

Conclusion

Remember, patience and consistent practice are key to steady improvement. With two weeks of diligent practice, you’ll master position control on your favorite maps, taking your CSGO gameplay to the next level.
