Moreover, Leather is crucial for crafting advanced armor, providing you with the necessary protection against formidable foes and during perilous encounters with dangerous Pals. As you progress, having a steady supply of Leather will enable you to face challenges with confidence.

One of the most effective methods for acquiring Leather is by capturing Pals. This approach not only rewards you with the highest experience points but also ensures a steady drop of valuable items, including Leather. The beauty of this method lies in its versatility; many different types of Pals drop Leather, so you don’t have to focus on any specific type, such as water, fire, or ground Pals. Capturing Pals is more beneficial than defeating them, as it guarantees both experience and loot.

To optimize your efforts, click on the habitat to view where Pals typically reside on the map. Pay attention to the sun and moon icons in the lower right corner of your screen, as some Pals can only be found at specific times of the day. In the early stages, the Windswept Hills region is an excellent place to farm Leather by capturing or defeating Foxparks, Eikthyrdeer, and Melpaca. Foxparks are the most common, but you might also encounter Fuddlers in caves or roaming Nox.

Alternatively, if farming Pals isn’t your preferred method, you can grow money and purchase Leather from wandering traders in small settlements. Located across the water to the west of your starting point, these traders sell Leather for 150 gold each—an affordable option if you prefer not to farm through Pals. Explore the map to find chests containing gold, or sell extra Pals to the Pal merchant in the small settlement or the black market merchant in the abandoned mine northwest of the settlement. Valuable items can also be sold to wandering traders for extra cash, ensuring you have enough to buy any Leather you need.

A pink counterpart to Chillet, Chillet Ignis was added in the Sakura Island update and can be found on the new map. It drops Leather and fire glands, and its unique ability allows it to ignite your base’s furnace and harvest your planted food.

Kikit joins the roster of Pals, providing Leather, bones, and crude oil when captured or defeated. Its partner ability reduces the weight of crude oil in your inventory, making it a valuable addition to your team.
