Unveiling the Black Myth Wukong Skandha

Today, I want to share my excitement about
Black Myth Wukong with you. This game is absolutely fantastic! It not only draws from the rich lore of “
Journey to the West” but also introduces innovative gameplay mechanics that keep you hooked. One of the most intriguing aspects of the game is the concept of the Skandha. You might be wondering, what exactly is the Skandha? These are crucial items that unlock different endings, and you need to complete each chapter’s tasks and defeat hidden bosses to get them.
In the first chapter, Cang Wolf Forest, near a small stream in the front mountain, you’ll encounter a monster called Shanxiao. It runs away as you approach, but near the Buddha head on the ground, you can find the first key item, Form Skandha. This marks the beginning of your journey.
In Soul Cliff, on a rubble platform just before the Stone Vanguard, there’s a giant rock. By collecting six Buddha Eye Beads, you can activate the hidden boss Shi Gandang. Defeating Shi Gandang grants you the second skandha, Sensation.
As you progress through the main storyline, you’ll arrive at Bliss Valley at One Thought Wall. After defeating the platform boss, jump down from the right side of the platform and follow the mountain path to a broken Buddha head. Triggering a cutscene here will reward you with the third skandha, Perception.
In Pan Silk Ridge at Pan Silk Cave’s Mercy Cave, turn right and continue to an open cavern. On the left side, you’ll see Shanxiao again. After it runs away, you can find the fourth skandha, Mental Formations , near the Buddha head.
In Flower Fruit Mountain, during the Shanxiao side quest, you’ll encounter a giant rock, Great Shi Gandang. Defeating it will prompt Shanxiao to give you the final skandha, Consciousness . Collecting the skandha allows you to seek out Xu Dog from the second chapter, who can refine them into the Skandha Elixir.
Consuming the Skandha Elixir permanently boosts your character’s attributes, adding 20 points each to health, mana, stamina, attack, and defense.
The concept of the Skandha comes from Buddhist teachings, describing the components that make up the human body and mind. According to Buddhism, all phenomena are formed by the combination of skandha:
- Form : All material phenomena perceived through the five senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch).
- Sensation : The feelings and experiences resulting from external stimuli.
- Perception : The recognition and conceptualization of external objects.
- Mental Formations : The will and mental activities.
- Consciousness : The cognitive awareness, including visual and auditory consciousness, representing the totality of the cognitive process.
